Feeding a Family of 60 Children

Healthier, Happier Kids

World’s Children provides the basics–food, clothing, shelter, and education through our child sponsorship program. We have also started a program called Sponsor an Orphanage. This program got its start because food prices are always rising, but not all of our sponsors are able to raise their sponsorship fees to offset the growing costs.

This program provides funding for additional high quality food for the children. Currently this project helps one home that relies solely on World’s Children for its financial support: Balavikasita Orphanage.

Vegetables for 60 kids to last a week

The results of this project have been very positive. The children are happier and healthier, and the administrators are spending less time and money on medical issues. The children are also doing better in school.

Dear Donors,

We are really grateful and thankful to you for your kind support and help for our children at the home by meeting their special nutrition needs. Before their energy levels were usually low. But, as we are now getting your support to meet the extra needs, we are able to provide milk, yogurt, eggs, fruits, and snacks to all the children living at the home. They get their snacks twice during the day—once at school and once after they come back from school.

They are all happy to have this special and nutritious food. This is giving them energy to play as well as focus on studies and stay healthy. We have very less cases of ill health in the past year. This is made possible only because you support us financially.

I am personally thankful and grateful to you for your help and always remember you in my prayers.

With love and gratitude,
Uttam Kumar Songa

Note from Orphanage Sponsor

Dear David:

Thank you for taking the time to show me the results of my humble donation in improving conditions for the children at the Balavikasita Orphanage, and for including the nice thank-you letter from Mr. Kumar. It was especially helpful and gratifying to see actual images of the accomplished work. [Photos like the ones above were sent to the donors who sponsor this orphanage.]

You surely have many things begging for your time, but we donors are quite grateful that you treat us so attentively and kindly. May God bless you and your staff in all your noble efforts.

Respectfully,
Don

With your help, we hope to expand this program to supplement the diets of many more children in need of a nutritional boost.

Loretta met David Purviance on a chance trip in 2006, while seeking to be of service to the vulnerable children in India.  Since then, Loretta has been a longtime supporter of World’s Children as a donor, sponsor, and previous Board member.  She had the wonderful opportunity to return to India twice to visit several World’s Children orphanages, and even identified the Happy Home orphanage and petitioned to bring it into the WC family. Loretta raised funds to build a well at Happy Home, where it now has clean water for all the children and staff.

Loretta currently works with the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services as the Program Manager for the six Medical Hubs – the child abuse evaluation clinics for the County. She also serves as the Program Manager for the County’s Gender Health Program, serving patients seeking gender-affirming care in a safe environment.  Before her work with Los Angeles County, Loretta spent many years serving non-profit organizations in CA and in MN, her last as the Executive Director of a statewide non-profit in MN. She has a long history of volunteer work including Board Member and Board Chair service, grant writing and fundraising experience, program development, and creative leadership, all serving our most vulnerable and disenfranchised populations.

Loretta holds a Bachelor of Science in Human Services, a Master’s degree in Spiritual Psychology, and a Master’s degree in Organizational Leadership.  She lives in Los Angeles County with her partner, Myck, and their rescue kitties, Scooter and Thunder.
