Getting to Know Your Sponsored Child

Knowing your sponsored child helps build a beautiful foundation and connection, especially when watching them grow over the years.
If you sponsor a child with World’s Children, you know that once a year you will receive the following items:

  • One photo of your child each year
  • One letter from your child each year
  • One detailed progress report from the children’s home administrator about your child’s development over the past school year

Knowing who you support is a big deal. It is always fun to see what your sponsored child looks like, what they have accomplished in school and what activities they love to pursue when they are not in school or busy worrying about the future that lay ahead of them. For this reason, World’s Children is adding one more bullet point to the list above: a child questionnaire.

A Questionnaire You’ll Love

This year, we have created a new way for our sponsors to get to know their sponsored child. Our staff created two questionnaires (age dependent) for the children to fill out. These questionnaires ask questions about the kids life such as favorite subject in school, favorite holiday and so forth.

The questionnaires sent back to our office have been extraordinary! We are learning so much about all the children sponsored through World’s Children. Not only did the children write amazing responses but they also drew some beautiful pictures. We are so excited to share a sneak peak below!

Loretta met David Purviance on a chance trip in 2006, while seeking to be of service to the vulnerable children in India.  Since then, Loretta has been a longtime supporter of World’s Children as a donor, sponsor, and previous Board member.  She had the wonderful opportunity to return to India twice to visit several World’s Children orphanages, and even identified the Happy Home orphanage and petitioned to bring it into the WC family. Loretta raised funds to build a well at Happy Home, where it now has clean water for all the children and staff.

Loretta currently works with the Los Angeles County Department of Health Services as the Program Manager for the six Medical Hubs – the child abuse evaluation clinics for the County. She also serves as the Program Manager for the County’s Gender Health Program, serving patients seeking gender-affirming care in a safe environment.  Before her work with Los Angeles County, Loretta spent many years serving non-profit organizations in CA and in MN, her last as the Executive Director of a statewide non-profit in MN. She has a long history of volunteer work including Board Member and Board Chair service, grant writing and fundraising experience, program development, and creative leadership, all serving our most vulnerable and disenfranchised populations.
